SOCA Teams Win Eleven Titles on Big Tourny Weekend
SOCA Travel teams hit the road for a giant tournament weekend November 17-19, as most squads were putting the wraps on their fall season. Forty six SOCA teams competed in four different events to showcase their skills and test their mettle against regional competition. SOCA teams claimed 11 division championships demonstrating again the depth and breadth of talent within the club. Nearly one in four teams returned with gold finishes, with another handful claiming second place. The positive results are the the product of quality players developed by committed coaches through innovative, comprehensive programming.
Elite Boys: Premier Cup; Bethesda, MD. The Premier Cup is a highly regarded, extraordinarily selective event showcasing top talent from throughout the eastern seaboard. SOCA’s eight attending Elite squads claimed a remarkable four championships (U17, U16, U3 and U11) and amassed a 72% winning percentage. The U16 and U17 boys were in the competitive Showcase format, while the 13’s and 11’s won through championship finals. Augusta Premier & Classic: Champions Shootout; Williamsburg, VA. All 13 of SOCA-Augusta’s travel teams, Boys and Girls, made the trek to the historic region to cap their season. Three Augusta Boys teams (U19, U12 and U11) claimed championships while the U12 Girls Premier took silver in their division. Charlottesville Premier Girls: Capital Fall Classic; Richmond, VA. Seven Charlottesville based squads traveled down the road to Richmond facing regional opponents and the U14 Charlottesville Girls Premier fought to a perfect 4-0-0 championship performance. Both the U19 and U16 Girls Premier teams displayed strong performances with two wins and one loss each. Charlottesville Boys & Girls Classic: Hunt Country Classic; Fauquier, VA. Competing largely against teams from soccer-rich northern Virginia, the local Classic squads gave good account of themselves against tough opponents. The U12 Boys Classic White, U14 Girls Classic Blue and U12 Girls Classic White all posted perfect 4-0-0 performances to capture their division crowns, while the U15 Boys Classic White claimed second spot in their group. For most teams the fall season has come to an end and focus will shift to winter indoor programs. Staying sharp over the winter break will entail a mix of low key indoor league play and focused Academy training. SOCA’s U16-U19 Elite teams will continue with a limited program of unique showcase events through December.
