Elite Teams Enjoy Early Season Success

SOCA Elite teams jumped off to an impressive Spring season start with three of the local squads claiming first place trophies at the Arlington Invitation Tournament earlier this month.

At the Boy’s weekend on March 4 and 5, Fran Lavin’s U12 Apprentice team claimed first place with a 5-4 thriller over McLean.  The youngsters swept to a perfect 3-0 record before adding a fourth win in the championship final.

Following the Girl’s weekend event, held March 11 and 12, both the U12 and U13 SOCA teams made the trip home hauling the championship trophy.   The U12 Apprentice team, coached by Erick Altamiranda, earned a perfect 3-0 record in group play before winning the championship final 3-1 over McLean.  The U13 Elite girls played in a highly competitive group, winning two matches and drawing one on their way to the final, where they posted a closely fought 1-0 victory over PWSI Courage.  First-year coach Caroline Warhaftig was delighted with her team’s effort and their championship performance.

Also enjoying some early season success were the U15 and U16 Boys Elite teams, both of whom finished second in their group at the well-respected Loudoun College Showcase on the March 3-5 weekend.

SOCA’s high school aged teams (U19-U16) are nearing completion of their CCL schedule.  Most teams have only a small number of make-up games remaining.  SOCA results have been outstanding, with four teams currently in first place in their division (U16, U17 Boys and U16, U17 Girls).

SOCA’s younger (U15-U11) Elite teams will pick-up league play this weekend, March 25, 26, with matches on the road at Potomac and Frederick FC, both in Maryland.
