U12 Boys Blue Sweep to Capital Fall Classic Title
The SOCA U12 Boys Blue Travel team swept the table over the November 20, 21 weekend at the Capital Fall Classic in Richmond. After a season of severe tests and hardening in the VPSL, the SOCA squad was well prepared to succeed in the season closing tournament.
Under the guidance of veteran coach Kirk Shafer, the SOCA Boys Blue brought together their experience and youthful exuberance to win their division title. The weekend began with an early afternoon, rousing 4-0 win over a host Strikers team. The good start lifted confidence and help pave the way for weekend success. In the second, late afternoon Saturday match, SOCA prevailed in the closest match of the weekend, 2-1 over Loudoun. The win set the table for advancement, and the group settled in for replenishment and rest prior to the Sunday slate.
On Sunday morning, the Charlottesville group cruised to a 6-2 win over Richmond Kickers, placing them securely in the final later that day. In the final, SOCSA faced a Richmond Strikers Elite squad and pulled away to a 5-1 championship performance.
With the event, the fall season has concluded and teams will be taking a formal winter break. Many players will continue with various SOCA indoor programs to maintain their high level performance. Spring season training will resume in February with matches returning at the end of that month and league play following.
