Fall Recreation Season Wraps Up at Frostbite Tournament
The SOCA fall 2021 Recreation season reached it’s dramatic, joyful conclusion in the Frostbite Tournament, which took place over the December 4/5 weekend. The season-ending event included a total of 29 SOCA Recreational teams playing in six competitive divisions with matches taking place at the club’s premier facilities; South Fork Soccer Park and the Field House.
With over 350 players involved in the traditional, festive, fall conclusion, it was a notable testament to the program’s mission of enthusiastic participation. Coaches provided positive support for their charges as they took on opponents from within the SOCA Recreation structure, to claim local bragging rights in their age group. Joining the SOCA teams was a squad from sister club Augusta United, in the U19 division.
Divisions were formed at the U10 (boys and girls), U12 (boys and girls), U15 (co-ed) and U19 divisions. The friendly competition kicked-off each morning in appropriately frosty conditions, which gave way to warming trends later in the day. Championship and runner-up medals were awarded, with some titles requiring the drama of penalty kick shoot-outs to determine the winner.
The optional tournament has been a long standing club tradition, providing eager players the chance to test themselves in a competitive event. After a COVID hiatus in previous seasons, the chance to compete in the local tournament was embraced by teams and families. The Spring Recreation season will similarly conclude with the Sunburn tournament in May of 2022.
