SOCA U12 Boys Apprentice and Skyline Elite U13 Girls Reach State Cup Semi-Finals
The SOCA U12 Boys Apprentice and the Skyline Elite U13 Girls have both advanced to the VYSA State Cup semi-finals, to be held on June 5 at the Virginia Soccer Training Center in Fredericksburg. The State Cup is an open, single elimination competition which determines the Virginia state champion in age groups U12-U19 each year. SOCA and affiliate Skyline Elite Soccer Club proudly claim 14 State Cup titles and are looking to add to that total in June.
The boys are guided by former professional and native Brazilian Erivaldo da Silva, who brings global experience to his coaching. In the early rounds of the Cup competition, the boys dismissed Va Legacy 7-1 before edging Loudoun 2-1 to earn their spot in the final four, where they will face the SYC Lions in a 10:00 am kick-off. Should the Apprentice squad advance to the final on Sunday, June 6, they will face the winner of Alexandria and Arlington.
The Skyline Elite U13 Girls cut a clean path to the semi-finals with a 1-0 win over McLean and a 5-0 romp over Va Rush. They will face SYC Pride at 1:00 pm, with the hope of facing the winner of Va Legacy and Arlington in the Sunday final. Coach Jason Moore leads the Elite girls, having gained valuable championship experience with two previous Cup titles.
