Boys Elite Impress at Bethesda; Premier and Classic Earn Medals
SOCA Travel teams were scattered across the region as they competed in various tournaments this past weekend showcasing their talents at the close of the fall season. Thirty seven SOCA teams were on the road participating in three different tournaments for Elite, Premier and Classic squads.
Boys Elite teams were at the Bethesda Premier Cup in Maryland, battling against top representatives from throughout the mid-Atlantic. The U15 Elite and U11 Elite teams came away with championship titles in their tournament format brackets. Both swept to perfect 4-0-0 records, with the U15’s a surprise winner, topping FC United from Illinois 1-0 in their final match.
In the showcase format, SOCA Elite U18’s and U17’s both finished tied for first in their group. Overall, at one of the most highly regarded tournaments in the region, SOCA Elite Boys posted an impressive 19 wins, five draws, against only four losses. The depth and breadth of success on the field once again demonstrates the quality of SOCA programming. College coaches were abundantly visible throughout the weekend as they scoured the fields for next year’s talent.
Premier teams from both Charlottesville and Augusta regions made the trip to Williamsburg to compete in the CCL Shootout, where the Charlottesville U17 Boys Premier ran off four consecutive victories to take the crown in their division with a 2-1 championship win over FC Frederick.
Seven other SOCA Premier teams finished in second place in their respective brackets (U14 Boys, U13 Boys, U12 Boys, U11 Boys, U15 Augusta Boys, U16 Girls, and U12 Girls) with a special note attached to the U12 Boys result. The locals lost in the final to Triangle United (NC) only after a marathon 17 rounds of a penalty kick shootout. High praise must go to the boys for enduring that pressure as long as they did.
At the Capital Fall Classic in Richmond, SOCA Charlottesville girls Classic teams were in action, along with a mix of Augusta girls Premier and Classic teams. The Charlottesville Classic Girls U15, U14 Blue, and U11 squads were able to earn second place awards in their brackets.
The CCL Showcase, for the U19-U16 Elite teams, remains as the final fall season showcase. That high level recruiting event will take place on the weekend of December 9-11.
