Six SOCA Squads Still in State Cup
Six SOCA Elite teams remain in the VYSA State Cup competition, with all six now in the quarterfinal group stage of the state championship. This past weekend the U17 Boys Elite squad guided by DOC Dan Ensley ran rampant over Richmond Strikers, posting an 8-1 victory over the visitors, and thus advancing to the group stage.
The U19 Boys, led by coach Dan Atwell, earned a draw in their first group game against Virginia Legacy, keeping the local team very much alive for advancement, as the other match up in group play also ended in a tie. The squad will not be active in State Cup this weekend.
Four girl’s teams continue in the hunt for the State title in their age group quarterfinal stage. This weekend, October 1-2, both the U15’s and the U17’s will be busy, with two matches each at the Virginia Soccer Training Center in Fredericksburg. The 17’s, also coached by Ensley, are coming off a win in their opening group match and now face two unseeded teams, while the U15’s, guided by Jason Moore, will seek to overturn their opening loss and surprise the #2 and #3 seeded Beach FC and Loudoun.
